It’s April 17th 2026, St Patrick’s Day and an opportunity to celebrate some of the amazing contributions to world culture that have emerged from the island or Ireland.
Today we’re looking at the Top 3 Irish Writers and as with every Top 3 list, the challenge is not what you include but who you leave out so no room alas for Oscar Wilde of Jonathan Swift as we went for ….
James Joyce
No, we have no idea with his books are about but i’m sure thats our issue and not his. That aside, no argument we think that as the author of “Ulysses” he deserves his inclusion
W. B. Yeats
Personal favourite of Andrew and his ability to fuse Irish myth and national identity, alongside his brilliant and innovative lyrical form means he’s in.
Samuel Beckett
Waiting for Godot, Nobel Prize for Literature … surely you’d be crazy not to include Mr Beckett in your Top 3 of Irish Writers. We’re not, so he is our 3rd choice.
Do you agree?
